Abstract

The agricultural sector faces challenges in water resource management due to climate change and limited availability. Melon plants (Cucumis melo) require precise irrigation control to maintain productivity and fruit quality. This study aims to implement a Mamdani Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) on a MAPPI32 microcontroller for an automatic irrigation system in melon cultivation. The system utilizes soil moisture, soil temperature, ambient humidity, and ambient temperature sensors to monitor environmental conditions in real time. Sensor data are processed through fuzzification, inference with 81 rule bases, and defuzzification using the centroid method to determine irrigation duration. The output is classified into three categories: short (3.9 s), medium (5.72 s), and long (10.4 s). Testing results show that the system provides adaptive and stable irrigation decisions and is more efficient than conventional on–off methods. This implementation demonstrates potential for improving water use efficiency in smart irrigation systems.
